Summary of Qualifications
Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy. Experience and/or Training: (1) Experience. Six months of clerical, clerical, customer service, or other administrative work experience that indicates the ability to acquire the specific knowledge and skills necessary to perform the duties of the position; OR, (2) Education. One year after high school; OR, (3) Experience/education combination. An equivalent combination of experience and education qualifies for the entry level for which education and experience are acceptable. English proficiency. MSAs must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005 Grade Determinations:
GS-7 Senior Medical Support Assistant:
Experience. One year of experience at the GS-6 level or equivalent, which are, but not limited to: Ability to collaborate and communicate with a wide range of medical clinicians across multiple disciplines (e.g., physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants , psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, clinical pharmacists and nursing staff) to accomplish team goal setting to ensure that medical care for patients is satisfied; Ability to independently prioritize and organize work to meet deadlines, ensuring compliance with established processes, policies and regulations, Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively, electronically, over the phone, in person and in writing , with internal and external clients, this may include preparing reports in various formats and presenting data to various organizational levels, as well as resolving patient concerns; In-depth knowledge of the technical healthcare process (including but not limited to planning interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery and/or care in community models and patient healthcare portals) as it relates to concerning access to care; In-depth knowledge of the technical healthcare process (including but not limited to planning interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery and/or care in community models and patient healthcare portals) as it relates to concerning access to care; and Advanced knowledge of medical terminology due to the technical nature of the language used by clinicians. AND Demonstrated knowledge, skills and abilities. Applicants must demonstrate all of the KSAs below: Advanced knowledge of medical terminology and a wide range of clinical flow processes related to accessing care across multiple clinics, specialties, and/or community resources. Ability to use many advanced patient systems in support of multiple clinics in an interdisciplinary setting. Ability to organize work, set priorities and delegate tasks/responsibilities in order to meet deadlines. Ability to communicate with individuals to achieve desired effect and coordinate with a variety of interdisciplinary care teams. Ability to provide staff development and training. Ability to manage staffing needs, manage workflow priorities and adjust workflow to meet team and patient needs. This includes the ability to track outstanding issues and demonstrate an understanding of the impact of incomplete work across multiple clinics. References: VA HANDBOOK 5005/117 PART II APPENDIX G45
