Despite ongoing vaccination efforts, new daily cases of COVID-19 are starting to rise again in parts of the United States. Yet the virus continues to claim victims. So far, 757,821 Americans have died from the virus – more than the total number of Americans killed in World War I and World War II combined.

The larger Minneapolis metropolitan area includes 16 counties or county equivalents – and among them, Thousand Lakes County has had the most COVID-19 deaths per capita. So far, the per capita coronavirus death rate in Mille Lacs County stands at 268 per 100,000 people.
Although it has the highest per capita death rate in Minneapolis-St. The Paul-Bloomington metropolitan area, Mille Lacs County ranks in the middle 50% of all U.S. counties or county equivalents by COVID-19 per capita death rate.
